Lake Garda has everything you need to keep toddlers, kids and teenagers occupied for more than just sweet minutes. Whether it’s a trip to one of Italy’s largest theme parks, a visit to some striking medieval castles or exciting kid-friendly museums, there’s also plenty of opportunities for exhilarating hikes and all manner of water sports.

The towns around Lake Garda offer some fabulous walking, from leisurely strolls between pretty squares to strenuous hikes up to towering peaks. Some of our favourites include the Sentiero Busatte-Tempesta walk near Torbole, which includes a steep climb up many metal stairs and leads to some unreal views over Lake Garda.

Windsurfing is a popular activity for visitors to Lake Garda, especially in the north of the region around Riva del Garda and at neighbouring Arco. The winds here are influenced by the sinking cold air and rising warm air in the surrounding mountains and vary throughout the day, bringing good conditions for windsurfers and surfers.

A short walk from the lakefront town of Sirmione is the little island Isola San Biagio. It’s a lovely spot for swimming and sunbathing, with a café, bar and beach. Children will love the walk across the shallow strip of shingle and can have fun exploring the caves and waterfall.

During the Halloween and Christmas holidays, Lake Garda’s biggest theme park, Gardaland, is a great option for families. They’ll love the seasonal decorations and fantastic entertainment shows. Kids can even write letters to Babbo Natale or Befana in their very own Santa’s Grotto!wine lake gardaactivities lake garda
