Cushion diamonds are still quite brilliant, but less lustrous than round diamonds. Many people prefer the high brilliance of cushion cut, while others prefer the high overall shine of round diamonds. Cushion diamonds are about 20% to 30% less expensive than their round cut counterparts. When jewelers cut a rough stone, more damage is done in shaping the round, so the cost of maintaining each carat is higher.
