"The tasks of building the Olympic venues could be called implemented," Putin said at a meeting with International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach, adding the principal task for Russia has now become to prepare the national team for the Games.
"Russia will do its best for all the participants and guests, regardless of their ethnicity, racial heritage or sexual orientation, feel themselves comfortable during Olympics in Sochi, " he said.
He admitted that Russia has lost its positions in several winter sports and said that fans look forward to victories of the national team. The President mentioned ice hockey, skiing, biathlon, freestyle, snowboarding, short-track and figure skating among the sports the Russians might hope for the gold.
During the 21st Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, Russia took the eleventh place on the medal tally.
According to the Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko, Russian team has been revamped by 80 percent since the Vancouver Olympics.
Bach said that the IOC was satisfied with the Russian Olympic work and confident that the Games would be remarkable. Still he called not to lose steam in cooperation between IOC and Russian authorities.
"The last stage of preparations requires intense cooperation," he noted.
At the 22nd Winter Olympic Games, which are slated for Feb. 7- 23, 2014, 98 sets of medals will be contested.
