Posted in the topic The Moldovan parliament in the forum News and Announcements
    November 12, 2019 10:31 AM EST

On November 12, Moldovan parliamentarians dismissed the coalition government headed by pro-Western Prime Minister Maia Sandu after failing to pass a vote of confidence.

Earlier that same day, the coalition government in Moldova failed with 63 out of 101 parliamentarians voting without confidence.

Currently, the parties in the Moldovan Parliament will start negotiations to form a majority in parliament.

After consultation with these parties, Moldovan President Igor Dodon will appoint a candidate for the position of Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Sandu has formed a coalition government with the Russian-backed Moldovan Socialist Party.

[The Government of Moldova does not pass the vote of confidence]

However, Sandu's right-wing opposition (ASUM) supports it joining the European Union (EU) while the Moldovan Socialist Party wants to strengthen ties with Russia.

In addition, the two parties disagree over who will have the right to appoint a leading prosecutor.

Prime Minister Sandu wants to make his own decisions on this issue, while the Moldovan Socialist Party wants a special committee under the Ministry of Justice to make decisions.

Located between Ukraine and Romania, Moldova, with 3.5 million people in constant crisis after a $ 1 billion disappearance from three major banks in 2014, has affected the reputation of its political class.
