Each and every League of Stories fan, it seems like, continues to be clamoring for years for more international events.
Within a vacuum, it's easy to realise why. Teams play regularly against teams from their region, but both for purposes of improving competitive play and getting teams another competing outlet other than the LCS, IEM LoL events haven't delivered on the international fun lately.
Now this is simply not a criticism associated with IEM Katowice's some other events. The CS: GO event is actually stacked and the StarCraft II tournament most likely has the best field of players outside of Blizzcon or the GSL Code S playoffs.
For LoL, however , the quality and need for the matches goes away with each subsequent event. As was talked about recently within this column, a spat of LoL groups have already declined attracts to this event which has caused the LCS to come to a standstill for two weeks.
Now, if it were SKT, KT Rolster, TSM, Cloud9, G2 Esports, Unicorns of Really like, and top LMS teams every occasion? Oh hell yes.
But not with the most severe LCK teams using invites, NA groups refusing to come completely to use the time to break and prepare for more NA LCS, plus some teams using the occasion to warm up for real competition.
Truthfully, that means that every international 3rd party event (which lately has honestly just been IEM's) is essentially a friendly as well as doesn't really matter. But then it's a bit disingenuous to crown a "world champion" with only a number of competitive teams within attendance.
Does anyone really sit back as well as think, "Man, Unicorns of Love has shaky World's as well as Split Playoff performances but damn they tore it upward at IEM. "
No, of course not really.
When you throw international events you have to provide viewers a reason to care, and to be honest lower tier LCK teams playing against a good LMS team and a few EU squads isn't that interesting. It's not like any of these groups get a guaranteed World's appearance, or a gigantic amount of money, etc .
