KOKOMO -- Kokomo is known as a City of Firsts and now has another reason to add it to the list. The community is preparing to welcome the state’s first electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility, Star Plus Energy. The plant is a joint venture between Stellantis N.V. and Samsung SDI and is expected to open in 2025.

The facility will produce lithium-ion batteries, which are used to power EVs. Initially, the plant will employ 1,400 people. The project is part of Stellantis’ strategic vision to produce 1.5 million battery-electric vehicles by 2030 and achieve carbon net zero by 2038.

In order to meet its goals, Star Plus Energy needs talented Process Engineers like you. These individuals are responsible for the development and enhancement of EV battery production processes with a primary focus on safety, quality, productivity, and sustainability.

Kokomo’s new employees will come from all over the world. Some will be adopted Hoosiers, and others will be from South Korea. To help them settle in Howard County, IU Bloomington and Kokomo plan to offer a variety of programs that promote cultural integration. For example, the Institute for Korean Studies will offer classes to teach employees about everyday Korean culture. As a result, they will be better equipped to understand the customs of their coworkers. Ultimately, this will lead to a more successful workplace environment for all.
