As you may know, electional astrology is an important tool in the astrologer’s arsenal because it allows us to get in alignment with our desires and the universe’s ability to fulfill them. While it does not guarantee success, it can boost your odds. It also makes it possible to make things happen more quickly and with less struggle if done well.
There are a few basic ideas to remember when working with electional astrology. For example, it’s best to use a natal chart for yourself as well as the natal chart of anyone else who will be notably involved. This will help to avoid a clash of personalities that can lead to failure for one or both parties. It’s also useful to weigh each of the possible charts in terms of their synastry with the natal chart of the person launching the venture.
Another key consideration is sect, which determines whether a chart is a day-chart or night-chart. Ideally, all of the important planets in an electional chart should be applying to exact aspects with the benefic planets Jupiter and Venus (the general significator for the subject at hand). This indicates that the venture is likely to improve or affirm its topic. Malefics, such as Mars and Saturn, should be separating from the benefics rather than in hard aspect to them.
For those of you who are curious about electional astrology, there is an excellent webinar course on this by Kelly Surtees called “How to Pick Auspicious Elections.” It covers the basics and is a great place to start.
