When it comes to getting a precious gift from your ancestors, what would be better than an oriental rug? It is a pride of every homeowner because it is a precious, unique and aesthetically unmatched quality. Among different types of varieties, Persian rugs are a popular choice.  Urban elites of New Zealand like to adorn their homes with such rugs. They like to use the carpet for a long time because of its rich craftsmanship. By using proper cleaning and maintenance techniques, oriental carpets can last long.

    Check the Rug's label

Never mind checking the rug's label because it tells a lot about the rug. The label may contain instructions to clean the rug. It may tell you the fabric used to make the rug such as silk, cotton or wool. The cleaning of a rug depends on fabric quality. Cotton and wool rugs are durable and easy to clean, whereas silk rugs need cleaning from professionals for severe stains.

Vacuuming Regularly or Every Alternate Day

Vacuuming regularly doesn't allow dust to sit on the rug pockets. Wool and silk rugs need vacuuming from a brushless suction head to prevent it from tearing. Vacuuming with a brush may pull out the fiber.

The best alternative of vacuuming is sweeping or cleaning from a soft duster. They are safe to use because of the control of cleaning in your hands.

Keep the Rug Away from Direct Sunlight

Oriental rugs can prone to sun damage. They may fade over time and lose its shine. Taking the rug out for an hour or two once a week is safe because it keeps bed smell out, but keep it away from the window where sunlight is entering directly.

    Testing The Rug for Colourfast

Persian rugs are usually dyed with natural colours. They are colourfast, but testing is necessary. You cannot take the risk of fading the rug colour. In case, the rug's label "reads dry clean only", then the rug may not be colourfast. You can test the rug. Saturate a small corner of the rug with room temperature water. Use a white towel to press it. If the towel has no stain of colours, then the carpet is likely to bleed.

     Spot Cleaning

Stains are intolerable for your precious oriental rugs. Clean the stained area as quickly as possible. If spills get dry, they become stubborn. At that time, expert care is the only solution. If any spill occurs, blot up as much the liquid as you can using a paper towel or a cotton cloth. Don't rub back and forth, it allows the stain to become deeper.

    Shifting Furniture Occasionally

Your sofa, coffee table and any heavy pieces of furniture can damage the fabric of the carpet over time. You can prevent it to have happened. It is a good idea to rearrange your furniture every three months. The practice will even out the wear and tear. It will also increase the longevity of the fabric.
