A new PC game, New World, has emerged as the most popular title available today. You should be aware of the following facts.
The term "New World" has been bandied about a lot lately, and if you're even a casual observer of the gaming industry, you've probably heard it mentioned. The long-awaited game finally went live on Wednesday, after numerous delays. It's being developed by Amazon Games, which, following the failure of the company's previous title Crucible, makes it a high-stakes release for the e-commerce behemoth in general.
The success of a massively multiplayer online game can only be determined months or years after its release, but New World has gotten off to a strong start in terms of player engagement. According to Steam data, New World coins currently has more concurrent players than any other game, as well as more Twitch viewers than any other. Only a few games on Steam have reached the level of popularity reached by New World on Wednesday: more than 700,000 players.
Developed by Amazon Games, New World is a fantasy massively multiplayer online game that is available only on the PC. Everything you'd expect from a high-budget MMO in 2021 (and you know Amazon has a high-budget) is here, including a massive world with diverse environments, a variety of game modes that include player-versus player and player-versus environment (PvP and PvE, respectively), and a rich set of roleplaying options.
It will take some time to get your head around New World's many, many elements, just as it is with all massive online games of this caliber. Nonetheless, here's a high-level summary. It takes place on Aeternum, a fictional island in the Atlantic Ocean where New World coins is set. While exploring Aeternum, you discover that the island contains a magical substance known as Azoth, which you must use to colonize the island. Apart from making the local fauna and flora hostile to you, Azoth also resurrects the spirits of the explorers who came to Aeternum before you and animates them to fight you. On the surface, the island is attempting to exterminate your life force. The power of Azoth will be harnessed to assist you in your defense.

Starting from the beginning of the game, you'll be assigned to one of three factions: the Marauders, the Syndicate, or the Covenant. A company is a type of guild or clan in another game that exists within each faction, and you can join any of them. Companies can band together to take over settlements scattered throughout Aeternum, which can then be transformed into player cities, which you'll be tasked with protecting once they've been transformed. Aside from that, there are four computer-controlled factions in The Corrupted, The Lost, The Ancient, and The Angry Earth: The Lost, The Ancient, and The Corrupted. A lot of the time, the player-controlled factions are at war with one another, and you'll have to choose a side and fight alongside them.
At the heart of New World's multiplayer are the factions controlled by the players themselves. Expeditions, Invasions, Outpost Rush, and War Mode are the four types of multiplayer available in New World. They consist of the following components:
Expediton: This is your typical dungeon in a massively multiplayer online game.
When you and four other players join forces, you can solve puzzles and take down powerful adversaries.
War Mode is a 100-person PvP mode in which one faction battles against another in order to win the game.
Your fort is either under attack or under defense depending on which faction you are fighting with.
For the first time in New World, you'll team up with 49 other players (for a total of 50) to defend your faction's fort against waves of computer-controlled enemies in the Invasion mode.
Achieving victory requires you to survive for 30 minutes.
When it comes to the Outpost Rush, things can get a little tricky.
Outside of the main game, Outpost Rush is a PvPvE experience.
It's a 20v20 battle in which you compete against another team to capture and defend outposts, all while fending off computer-controlled enemies on the battlefield.
As of 2014, Amazon Games announced that it would discontinue development of mobile games (such as Airport Mania and To-Fu Fury) and instead focus on AAA game development to compete with studios such as Activision-Blizzard, Ubisoft and Square Enix. The company announced three new titles in 2016 to that end: Breakaway, Crucible, and Buy Cheap New World Coins (all of which are available now).
It was announced in 2018 that Breakaway, a combination of Rocket League and League of Legends that targeted the esports audience, would be cancelled. As a result of the negative reception received when Crucible was first released in March 2017, Amazon decided to shut down the game's servers after only seven months of operation. Overwatch is a team-based shooter that is similar to Crucible.
The game is important for Amazon Games, because the studio is in desperate need of a big win at the moment. There have been three delays in the development of New World, which was originally scheduled to launch in May 2020 before being pushed back to August 2021 -- before a final one-month postponement.
