IPL 2021 auction likely to be held on February 11

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ended their 10-year trophy drought in IPL 2024 by claiming the championship title. Following their triumph, the management made significant changes to build a strong roadmap for their title defense in IPL 2025.

However, the defending champions are now dealing with injury concerns for several key players, which could force them to re-strategize ahead of the tournament. Here's a closer look at the three KKR players nursing injuries just a couple of months before IPL 2025.

    1. Anrich Nortje

KKR secured South African pacer Anrich Nortje during the IPL 2025 mega auction for ₹6.50 crore, with hopes that he would bolster their pace attack for the title defense.

Unfortunately, Nortje has been sidelined with a back injury, ruling him out of the ongoing SA20 and the Champions Trophy 2025. His availability for IPL 2025 remains uncertain, and the team is awaiting further updates on his recovery.

    2. Venkatesh Iyer

During a recent Ranji Trophy match, Venkatesh Iyer sustained an ankle injury and had to retire hurt after scoring just three runs. The left-handed batter was KKR’s highest-paid player in the IPL 2025 mega auction, purchased for a whopping ₹23.75 crore. Iyer is a vital part of KKR’s core lineup.

Although he later returned to bat, his injury remains a concern for the defending champions. While the issue doesn’t appear to be serious, KKR will monitor his fitness closely in the lead-up to the tournament.

    3. Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh, a key middle-order batter and one of KKR’s most dependable finishers, is the latest injury concern. He has been ruled out of the second and third T20Is of the ongoing England series due to a lower back spasm.

Although the severity of his injury is not yet confirmed, reports suggest that Rinku is expected to recover in time for IPL 2025. The franchise, however, will be keeping a close eye on his progress.

    Final Words

The Kolkata Knight Riders will be eager to defend their IPL title, but injuries to key players like Anrich Nortje, Venkatesh Iyer, and Rinku Singh could disrupt their plans. While Rinku and Iyer are likely to recover before the tournament, Nortje’s participation remains doubtful. KKR will need to adapt their strategies based on these developments to maintain their winning momentum in IPL 2025.
