Before you start Chromecast.com/setup, you need to make sure you have a compatible phone or tablet, a TV with an HDMI port, and a reliable WiFi connection.
Chromecast is available for most mobile devices with Android 5.0 or higher and iOS 11.0 and higher. You can also use Chromecast with a computer or laptop, but you can no longer set it up this way. Therefore, your phone or tablet is required for this setup process. After meeting all these requirements, you can follow the steps below.
Connect your Chromecast to the TV's HDMI port and a power adapter. Connect the USB cable to your Chromecast first, then to the HDMI port on your TV. If there is a number next to the HDMI port, write it down (you will need this information in the next step). Then connect the other end of the USB cable to a wall outlet.
Turn on your TV and press the input or source button on your remote until you see the Chromecast welcome screen. When you see the Setup prompt on your TV screen, you know you're on the right channel.
Download and install the Google Home app. You can find the app in the Google Play Store if you're using an Android device, or in the Apple App Store if you're using an iPhone or iPad.
Open the Google Home app and follow the onscreen instructions. First, tap [Introduction]. Then log in to your Google account or create one if you don't already have one. You'll also be asked to allow Google Home access to your location.
Then tap Start. If you don't see this, you can also tap the person icon in the lower right corner of the screen. Then tap Device Setup.
Tap on the new device, then Make another home. You will be asked to choose a nickname and/or address. The nickname will help you identify your movie when you start casting. You can leave the address blank. Then wait for the app to detect your device.
Then click Next and your Chromecast will be visible. If you have multiple apps, select where you want to organize them and click Next. If your device is not displayed, tap Do not see your device.
