How to replace crankshaft oil seal?

    Before choosing a new oil seal, the first thing you should be aware of is possible wear at the contact points of old parts. Such wear should be taken into account when selecting simulations. If the diameter of the seal does not match the size of the shaft, the part will not do its job and the technical fluid will still leak.

    If a repair analogy is not available in the product (which is very rare, unless you can search the options of other cars), you can buy a new oil seal and install it so that the edges don't fall into the scuff. When the bearing in the mechanism is worn, but still cannot be replaced, the new internal oil seal should have a special oil groove.

    Before replacing a new seal, a small analysis should be done: what is the cause of the damage of the old part. This can be natural wear, but in some cases, due to mechanical failure, the oil seal starts leaking. In the second case, installing a new oil seal would not help.

    An example of this situation is a failure that causes the axis to move freely in the horizontal direction. In this case, it is not enough to simply replace the seal. The unit needs to be serviced first and then the consumables replaced, otherwise even the new components will still pass through the fluid.

    As for the steps to replace the crankshaft oil seal, then first need to do some preparatory work. First, disconnect the battery. For information on how to do this correctly, read the separate comments... Secondly, we must drain oil from the motor. To do this, warm up the engine, unscrew the drain plug from the oil pan, and drain the grease into the prepared container.

    Oil seals before and after replacement have their own characteristics, so we will consider these procedures separately.

    Replace the front crankshaft oil seal

    To obtain the front crankshaft seal, you need to perform some disassembly work:

    Remove the cover from the belt (or chain) to prevent foreign matter from entering the timing drive;

    Timing belt or chain has been removed (some details of timing belt removal and installation are described here).

    The pulley connected to the crankshaft is disconnected;

    Old oil seal pressure out, change the new oil seal;

    The structure is assembled in reverse order. The only problem is that for the engine to work fully, the gas distribution mechanism needs to be properly labeled. Some engine valve timing faults can damage the valves. If you have no experience performing such a setup, it is best to delegate it to a master.

    There are a few nuances to consider when installing a new front crankshaft seal:

    Rest areas must be very clean. Foreign particles are not allowed as they accelerate the wear of consumables.

    A small amount of oil should be applied to the shaft contact (seat margin). This is easy to install on the shaft, prevent the elastic part of the parts from tearing, the oil seal will not be wound (replacement of other oil seals is the same).

    The seal of the unit must be treated with a special heat resistant sealant.
