Advantages of using PoE switches for IP cameras

Selecting a few PoE switches from thousands of options can be a daunting task. But we can make sure that we've tested hundreds of PoE switches in and out of our studios. Now let's take a look at why you should choose a PoE switch over a normal switch for IP cameras.

    1. More convenient

PoE switches are more convenient for IP cameras. Because if you choose a common switch, then you have to provide Ethernet over one cable and use another power cable for your IP camera. Therefore, two cables are required for each camera. Not to mention that each camera has a separate power outlet.

However, if you use PoE switches, one cable can be used at the same time. That means fewer cables in your home and fewer power outlets to check out. It is not only good for your home beautiful, but also a convenient choice.

    2. Simple and cheap installation

If you choose a common switch, the cost of a switch may be lower than a PoE switch. But keep in mind that you'll have to buy additional power connector cables, Ethernet cables, and install a different socket for each camera. Therefore, the total cost of PoE switches is much higher.

PoE switches, on the other hand, can save you the cost of buying extra power cables and sockets in bulk. Plus, you don't need to set up power outlets and cables to work with the hassle. So, installation is also very convenient.

    3. PoE switches are more secure

Most PoE switches use IEEE 802.3AF technology. Therefore, there is little or no damage to your camera if you use a PoE switch.

On the other hand, normal voltage increases or decreases in the power grid can burn your camera. Also, it's not a good idea to install sockets for IP cameras outside your home. Because in the event of a natural disaster, these sockets can cause accidents.

Therefore, PoE switches are much more secure than other options.

    4. Continuous connection

If you use UPS with PoE switches, you can have a concept of continuity. Because they can still work in the event of power shortages or blackouts.

On the other hand, a non-POE switch can't even power your camera with a UPS. As a result, your security system may fail during a power outage.

    5. More reliable than wireless network camera systems

If you don't want to use any switches, then you can set up a wireless IP camera system. But there's a problem!

Because no matter how expensive your wireless IP camera is. It still causes delays and lots of outages in video sources. Because wired connections are always more reliable and powerful than wireless ones. Therefore, it is always a wise idea to use wired systems and PoE switches.
