Taylor Heinicke did his job as the Commanders' de facto starting quarterback last year after Ryan Fitzpatrick suffered Baltimore Ravens Jersey a season-ending injury in Week 1. Heinicke completed 321 of 494 pa ses (65 percent) for 3,419 yards, with 20 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. He started the season stronger than he finished it, however, and Washington was 7-8 in his starts. When the season ended, Heinicke appeared to know the Commanders were going to make a move at quarterback, or he at least suspected it."Whatever my future holds, if it's the backup, if it's the starter, I'm happy either way," he said in January, .It looks like it will be "backup" for Heinicke after the Commanders made an offseason trade for Carson Wentz. During his media availability Wednesday at minicamp, Heinicke acknowledged that Wentz would likely be starting, if only because of his $28.3 million price tag., Heinicke said. You look at the NFL and at the end of the day, its kind of a busine s. If youre paying someone $30 million and youre paying someone else $2 million youre paying this guy $30 million to play, you know?"Heinicke did praise Wentz. "Carsons a great quarterback and you see it through OTAs and minicamp. And I hope he goes out there and succeeds," he said.MORE:Wentz will be playing on his third team in as many years with the Commanders after being the Colts' starter last season. If Heinicke is the one being asked, he won't have to fight for another starting role. The Commanders might not have a quarterback battle heading into training camp, but several NFL teams are not in the same position. The Sporting News looks at some of the competitions that are going on:Falcons: Marcus Mariota vs. Desmond RidderIt is rare for a quarterback drafted outside the top three to start in Week 1. It's almost unheard of for a player picked No. 74 overall to do so. Ridder will inevitably draw comparisons to Ru sell Wilson, who was picked 75th overall and then beat out Matt Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson to start his first game in Seattle.Ridder is competing against Mariota and Feleipe Franks in Atlanta, and it's hard not to notice some similarities between his situation and Wilson's. Wilson won a three-way competition for the job in the preseason; could that be in the Matt Skura Jersey cards for Ridder, too? It may seem like a long shot, but Atlanta was one of the few places where he could get a chance to start early.Panthers: Sam Darnold vs. Matt CorralDarnold was not good for the Panthers last season and Carolina is on the hook for the fifth-year option it picked up when it traded for him. Although it's difficult to imagine a situation in which the Panthers don't trade for Baker Mayfield, right now Darnold vs. Corral is what they have. The Panthers desperately crave direction and continuity, so do they go with last year's starter or a third-round rookie? Darnold is making $18.9 million this season; that isn't Wentz money, but it's a lot more than Corral's money. He's also a known entity, although one the team seems desperate to move off. The switch might come in the form of Corral, but he is working from a big deficit as a rookie trying to learn a pro offense.Browns: Jacoby Bri sett vs. Joshua DobbsAlthough the QB1 situation is taking Justin Tucker Jersey up all the air in the room in Cleveland, it's becoming increasingly likely that Deshaun Watson won't be starting Week 1 for the Browns. That means, barring the world's biggest turnaround with Baker Mayfield, the team's starting options are Bri sett, an offseason signing who became nece sary; or Dobbs, who is unproven at the pro level.Bri sett has had a solid career as a journeyman backup, but the Browns could decide to start fresh with Dobbs. He would be an unorthodox choice, but the Browns might need to shake things up early in the year to stay competitive without Watson.MORE:Giants: Daniel Jones vs. Tyrod TaylorTaylor has become an emergency QB option around the NFL. Bringing him in should be a big red flag to an incumbent starter, given his own experience as a starter. The Jones experiment has not worked out as planned for the Giants, and new general manager Joe Schoen has shown he wants to do things differently than his predece sor, Dave Gettleman. Add in a new coaching staff led by Brian Daboll, and the writing may be on the wall for Jones, who needs to earn his spot and keep Taylor from becoming a bridge quarterback for another franchise.Steelers: Mitchell Trubisky vs. Kenny Pickett vs. Mason RudolphPittsburgh's QB situation looks bleak. The Steelers signed Trubisky after he served as Josh Allen's backup for a year in Buffalo. Has he worked out his mechanical i sues? Rudolph has not impre sed as a spot starter.Pickett is a rookie. That's a known quantity in Rudolph, a known-unknown in Trubisky and a Miles Boykin Jersey complete unknown in Pickett. There's a reasonable chance Pickett will earn the starting job, but this competition is close to a blank slate. It feels as if anyone could come out as the starter depending on how training camp and the preseason go.Seahawks: Drew Lock vs. Geno SmithThe Seahawks insist that they're not rebuilding after trading Ru sell Wilson, Kenneth Dixon Jersey but this competition begs to differ. Lock and Smith aren't going to sell tickets or inspire confidence in the fan base, so whoever comes out on top, the Seahawks likely won't mind too much.Lock was a part of the Wilson trade, but he didn't put up winning numbers with the Broncos. Even acknowledging i sues with his supporting cast in Denver, things aren't going to be better in Seattle. Smith was a part of the sloppy football in Seattle last year. Maybe he will do enough to win the job, but this is another competition that will depend on training camp and preseason.
