NAIROBI Leonard Williams Jersey , May 11 (Xinhua) -- Wilson Kiprop will not try and reclaim his continental 10,000m title when the Africa Senior Athletics Championships gets underway in Marrakech, Morocco in July.

Kiprop, 27, who was overlooked in Kenya's selection for the 2012 Africa Athletics Championships in Benin Jordan Jenkins Jersey , is giving the track competition a bye, partly due to lack of competitions in the longest event (10,000m PB of 27:01.98) and also because he said it was the right time to shift his career a gear up to the marathon distance (2:09:09).

"I would love to compete for Kenya again. But it will be in the marathon. For now, I believe it is right to allow the younger athletes take the baton in the track."

"I believe the marathon distance is more lucrative and important for me now that am getting older," said Kiprop in Eldoret. The former World Half Marathon Champion has had 14 years on the track ever since he broke on to the national scene back in 1998.

"We have to give rooms to other upcoming athletes. You know how I used to run in track and managed to do well in Olympic and even won world medals. But I have to step aside to allow the upcoming generation. Let them take the challenge to the Ethiopians now on the track Darron Lee Jersey ," Kiprop added.

Success has been hard to come to Kiprop, especially at events outside Africa on the track. Though he won gold at the World Half marathon in Nanjing, China, he made the cut for the 2011 World championships but had to withdraw due to a muscle injury and in the 2012 London Olympics, Kiprop failed to finish the race. He was sixth at the last World Half Marathon Championships in Copenhagen ArDarius Stewart Jersey , Denmark.

Kiprop has only competed in one 42km ultimate distance, in 2009 at the Prague Marathon where he made his debut posting an impressive fast time of 2.09.09.

"No one can predict of what to come next. I have to do my part and only God knows what lies in store for me in the future."

"That's why I have come up with this decision. I have no regrets at all on track but it is the right time for me to switch to marathon at this age," added Kiprop.

He already has his schedule filled up with the Ottawa 10km race set for May 24. A second marathon in the fall, either in Europe or USA will be appealing to Kiprop and as he buries his head into training, he hopes to emerge with a high reputation and win a title.

His coach Solomon Serem Marcus Maye Jersey , said they will be targeting a sub 2.06 in marathon. That will be almost three minutes off his personal best.

"He may represent Kenya in marathon at the next World championships or Olympics but we are not in hurry. We want to first make him gain endurance and skill in the event," said Serem.

That means, He will skip both the Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Morocco in July and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland later in August. As Kiprop takes the breather, only time will tell if he will return a rejuvenated athletes as he pouts his fears on the line pounding the unrelenting 42km distance.
