You have diabetes. With these words from my doctor I became one Sugar Balance Review of the over two million Canadians and 250 million people around the world with the disease. Many, (somewhere around a third of these people), don't know yet that they have it.I had no idea of the seriousness of the disease either. Talking to others, even those with diabetes, did nothing to give me any reason to be too concerned over having it.
Most were of the attitude that it was no big deal. Mind you, many that I talked to were in the earlier stages of the disease. They thought the "cure" was to only control their diet a little. Their lives basically went along as usual. But, after first trying the only oral medication I was able to take, I went directly on to insulin. I did little reading on the subject, at least statistically speaking until recently. Oh, I learned what I was supposed to do as far as controlling the disease. But that was as far as it went.
As my disease progresses and I experience more of the effects of long-term diabetes, I have found myself actively seeking out more information on the disease. Some of the facts are startling to say the least.Did you know that diabetes kills approximately the same amount of people each year as HIV aids? About 3.5 million. That's scary. And the fact is few even hear about it. Unless you have the disease and do some research on it.
