How Web 3 Will Impact the SEO

The World Wide Web (also simply known as the Web) has gone through many transitions. In its early days, it was known as the Web 1.0, with its glorious static pages, marked with each page ending with an .HTML extension. The web pages were simple, could only display still images and few gifs here and there. Such web pages could not play videos on their own. However, with the help of Adobe Flash Player, they were able to not only play videos but also games. Internet, at that time, was navigated through Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer.

As our devices grew more powerful and portable, and as new browser technologies emerged, Web 2.0 was born. Web 2.0 is the current standard that shied away from dependencies such as flash player (although it still made use of Flash Player during translation) and allowed videos getting played with HTML5 based players. The web pages of Web 2.0 are more dynamic and are capable of displaying real-time information such as cricket match scores. Discovering these websites is achieved through search engines such as Google and Bing.

Web 3.0 will be the next chapter of websites. Websites based on Web 3.0 will be interactive, federated and decentralized. Current system of Web 2.0 is based on centralized servers, thus if the server goes down, so will the website. However, the decentralized nature of Web 3.0 based websites can stay up as every device accessing the website can serve as a server for the other device. Thus the discovery of such websites will require a different approach to the SEO.
