As I have post up here it has been a wild few months for me. A retirement, a wedding and heck of a good buck along the way. I have been a member here since way before either of my marriages so wanted to share a few pics with the community that has become a weird, wild and slightly dysfunctional extended family.
I got married late last month to the woman of my dreams and we leave here on Friday for a retirement trip/honeymoon down to Nashville then Memphis then through Arkansas over to finally hunt some pigs in Oklahoma. My wife has been training hard (she always does) but specifically to increase draw weight. I am incredibly proud of her progress, here she is working some lats.
Here is the question/advise portion. I heard this morning that MFJJ and podium archery will have a new shop open just in time for our arrival down Nashville, that should be fun for sure. We are also staying at the Big Cypress Lodge in Memphis so that will be a cool hangout place there, but on our day through Arkansas (from Memphis over to Oklahoma) I don’t have much planned. Is there any stops or places to hit on the way to Ft. Smith? Any restaurants or things anyone would recommend (hunting related or not) to spend a few hours doing on that day we don’t have much planned other than travel. We were going to overnight in Ft. Smith just because it is within a couple hours of where we are hog hunting and there doesn’t seem to be much other around. We are open to all ideas though.
On this trip I decided to try a little experiment. ( A couple hogs is of course a non existent control group) but thought some conclusions, or at least observations could be made. I am trying to shoot one pig with the G5 T2 broad head and one with the G5 Striker broad head. Should be same steel, same sharpening process, same thickness of blades, same everything except cut size and shape. It will be interesting to see what the internal and external evidence of damage is.
Out of my Mach 33 both of these heads are flying at 295fps. After confirming that that the T2 and my field points were hitting to the same POI. I shot a couple of the Strikers. I must of been lucky because with zero additional tuning or moving of anything they were hitting very close. A coupe evenings ago I took two cold shots as 60 yards in the back yard. One with a field point and one with the Striker (yes it was horrible getting that head out of that bag). While it could be better I am pretty happy with the results, for this purpose as my shots will probably be half this distance. Will be cool to see what I find (thinking it will be 2 dead pigs if I can stalk them properly and we can find them).
Wanted to share a couple pics and see if there is any ideas on archery, hunting or just cool places to stop and see in traveling through Arkansas.
Did something similar a few years back after a wedding—hit a few small towns and roadside spots while traveling to a hunting spot. Some quirky diners and local bait shops ended up being the highlight, and snapping photos along the way made the whole route feel like part of the adventure. Put everything into a Wedding Memories album later, and it was wild to see the journey all together—not just the wedding, but the road trip and little stops too.
