ADEN http://www.oriolesteamproshop.com/customized/ , Yemen, July 24 (Xinhua) -- President of the InternationalCommittee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer visited Taiz, Yemenon Monday to assess a worsening health crisis caused by rapidspread of cholera.

Maurer told a news conference that the situation in Taiz is "badand catastrophic" in terms of public health, which requiresmultiplying the budget to face these hard circumstances, the SABAnews agency reported.

He said that the ICRC is implementing several programs in Yemen,where it has the second largest operation in the world, anindicator of the magnitude of the humanitarian hardship.

Maurer said that he came to inspect the enormous damage andimpact on local hospitals and personnel as a result of the war.

He added that the ICRC has decided to increase its support ofthe anti-cholera programs.

Maurer described the cholera outbreak as "man-made humanitariancatastrophe" that is directly caused by the civil war that hasdevastated the civilian infrastructure and brought the whole healthsystem to its knees.

He called on the warring parties to ease restrictions ondelivering humanitarian aid and medical supplies to fight thecholera outbreak and help contain the worsening humanitariansituation there.

Following his visits to Taiz and Aden, Maurer will also visitSanaa, the capital city controlled by Houthi rebels.

Yahya Alibi, head of the ICRC delegation in the Gulf CooperationCouncil, told the Kuwaiti official KUNA news agency on Monday thatmore than 300,000 people have been infected with cholera, which hasspread to 20 of Yemen's 22 governorates.

To make things worse, the infrastructure and hospitals in thiswar-torn country are unable to accommodate this number of patients,Alibi said.

The ICRC is currently supporting 11 health centers in the worstaffected provinces by improving the hygiene and sanitationconditions there, and providing local residents with necessarymedical supplies.

Yemen's government, allied with a Saudi Arabia-led Arab militarycoalition, has for years been battling Iran-backed Shiite Houthirebels for control of the impoverished country.

Statistics showed that more than 10,000 people have been killedin Yemen's conflict, most of them civilians, since the Saudi-ledcoalition entered the conflict in 2015. Enditem

The tortoises really are giant, with a length of up to a metre and weight up to 250kg. Other reptiles you could spot on holidays in Mauritius are the day gecko, and skinks, which may be smaller, but are colourful and interesting to look at.

In the Waters

In the Indian Ocean waters which surround the island, a whole host of colourful creatures may be found. Tuna, marlin, barracuda, shark and sailfish swim this region of the ocean, fished by the locals and used to create delicious fresh seafood dishes which you can enjoy at your Mauritius hotel. The coral reef surrounding the island is also home to an array of sponges, sea anemones and spikey, making diving an excellent activity on any Mauritius holiday. As you dive into the warm waters, you will be amazed at the colourful clown and box fish, trumpet, lionfish and stonefish that swim by.

It is important to remember that the coral reef is protected by the Mauritius Marine Conservation Society, and collecting shells and coral on your holiday in Mauritius may seem appealing, but it is depleting the natural environment, and the activity has been banned from the beaches.

Birds of the Air

Whilst birdlife in Mauritius is the object of conservationists, the Mauritius kestrel, pink pigeon and emerald green echo parakeet have happily been saved from extinction, and you could be lucky enough to spot these colourful birds on your Mauritius holiday. Other interesting and more commonly sighted birds include fly catchers, bulbuls and white eyes, and you?re likely to spot these feathered creatures on holiday in Mauritius.

Island Vegetation

For nature lovers, Mauritius holidays could prove to be inspirational, with some fascinating vegetation to be discovered. One of the most beautiful and rarest plants in the world is the Mandrinette, which is a pretty pink or colour. You can walk through the Black River Gorges National Park, where tropical plants and excellent views await you.
