is it sacrilege to swap out the pickups?
AFAIK I have never seen anyone change out the pickups from the stock Crunch Lab/Liquifire or newer signature sets. People tend to buy the JP guitars for the heavy prog sound, which it does really well.
I've had my JPX for almost 3 years now. It has a 5-way switch and the piezo, and especially through my Mark IV, I can cop Dream Theater tones all day long, and man is that sweet.
But at the same time I wonder how other pickups would sound. It's curiosity more than anything. I feel the CL/LF set is surprisingly versatile.
Any JP owners here? Have you dared to mess with the stock wiring?
Damn, right, I agree with you. I treat my 400 dollar guitar like a baby, and I see questions like this here. Guitars as expensive as Music Man's don't need pickup replacements for no good reason. If you disassemble the parts, their value can drop significantly.
Greetings. I don't think changing Music Man guitar pickups is a good idea. Forgive me, but as the owner of the guitar of this company, I could not psychologically afford such blasphemy. Especially if you haven't done any cartridge changes before, you shouldn't start experimenting with Music Man. It seems that this guitar is enough to play in a band or even more so to play at home.
