Germany is thought to be the birthplace of the Poodle. The breed was standardized in France, where it was widely employed as a water retriever. Because of the breed’s popularity in France, it was designated its national breed. Agility, obedience, tracking, and even herding are just a few of the canine sports that the Poodle excels at.

The body is muscular, moderately lean, the movements are vigorous and smooth. The muzzle is of medium length, the back of the nose is parallel to the line of the head, the lips are tightly pressed. The ears are rather large, low set, floppy, the tail is high, cropped at 2/3, as spaniels (if the owner wishes). Paws strong, fairly high. Large eyes with a clever cheerful look.
