Modalert is a medication that is used to treat excessive daytime drowsiness caused by narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, and shift-work sleep disorder. This medication aids in the reduction of severe sleepiness caused by narcolepsy and other sleep disorders, such as spells of no breathing while sleeping (obstructive sleep apnea). It can also be used to keep you alert during the day if your job schedule prevents you from getting a regular night's sleep (shift work sleep disorder). This drug will not cure your sleep difficulties and may not completely eliminate your tiredness.
Modafinil is a key component in Modalert 200. It should not be used to treat fatigue or prevent sleep in those who do not have a sleep disorder. Modafinil's mechanism of action for keeping you awake is unknown. It is considered to function by influencing brain chemicals that regulate the sleep/wake cycle.
