Fioricet is an effective medication with a combination of Acetaminophen, Butalbital, and Caffeine. These combinations are central nervous system sedatives.
- Acetaminophen is a pain relaxer and reduces fever.
- Butalbital is from the family of medication known as barbiturates. It soothes muscle contractions associated with tension headaches.
- Caffeine is a central nervous system sedative; it relieves muscle contractions in blood vessels to improve blood flow. And it amplifies Acetaminophen effects.
This combination medicine is used for treating tension headaches. Acetaminophen reduces the pain from headache, butalbital is a stimulant and decreases anxiety and causes relaxation and sleepiness, and caffeine enhances Acetaminophen's effects.
Many doctors also prescribe Fioricet for migraines and other medical purposes not mentioned here.
Acetaminophen, butalbital, and caffeine are supplied in capsule form for oral implementation.
Each capsule carries:
Acetaminophen………………… 325mg

Also, each capsule carries the following inactive ingredients: croscarmellose sodium, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline glucose with capsule coating of gelatin (sodium lauryl and silicon dioxide included as manufacturing aides to the gelatin) and titanium dioxide with the imprinting ink of n-butyl alcohol, pharmaceutical glaze modified in SD-45, propylene glycol, SDA-3A alcohol, titanium dioxide, D&C Yellow #10 aluminum lake and FD&C Blue #1 Aluminum Lake.
Many people also use Fioricet with codeine for treating migraines. A migraine can provoke severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually on one side of the head. It is followed by vomiting, nausea, and extreme sensitivity to sound and light. Migraines attacks can last for an hour to days.
