香港麻雀是十三張麻雀中最為傳統的變體，香港麻雀又被稱為清章或舊章，並且香港麻雀的遊戲方式與廣東麻雀大致上都相同，不過番種卻少很多，畢竟廣東麻雀是被稱為新章。不過近年來在香港似乎越來越少年輕人打麻將，也越來越少人打香港麻雀。在香港麻將經歷了很大的轉變，許多麻將館主力經營香港麻雀，也正在逐漸把市場轉向大陸市場，導致香港麻雀也變得越來越少人了解。麻將被傳向世界各地的時候，都會有些不一樣的轉變，在世界各地都各自擁有不一樣的牌例，無論是打法還是結算方式甚至是麻將的數量也都和香港麻雀並不一樣。而現在這時代在香港幾乎很少麻將館會主攻香港麻雀，全都主攻了大陸麻將以便來吸引中國遊客的市場，畢竟大陸麻將相比香港麻雀，是一種節奏明快，規則簡單的賭博活動，再加上由於土地問題，租金成本上漲等的原因，困擾著香港傳統麻將館，所以把麻將館香港麻雀變成大陸麻將，我想也是無可奈何的。畢竟大陸麻將的賭博性很強，競賽程度和需要用頭腦思考也比香港麻雀來得低，如果遊玩大陸麻將不賭錢的話，並不算是一個有趣的活動，這些重重原因也導致了目前香港不少年輕人迷上了大陸麻將，也逐漸忘記了香港麻雀的打法，畢竟香港麻雀是反映了香港特殊的背景，即使是來源於廣東麻將但經歷了多年的改變，融合了香港人獨有的思想，變成了只有香港人才會打的香港麻雀。所以香港麻雀即使是不賭錢，它也是一個有趣的活動。香港麻雀並不會取代，它是一個益智的運動，而雖然有許多香港年輕人不經常打麻雀，但它是歷史是文化傳承，我想總會有人繼續把香港麻雀發揚光大的。
