  • Select the Start option and enter the year you need to see. For example, if you want to see the files from 2015, type ".tax2015" in the search field.
  • Note the location of the file when it appears in the search results.
  • Launch the TurboTax version of the relevant year to view the file. In this case, it is TurboTax 2015.
  • Go to the ‘File’ section and select ‘Open.’ Navigate to the file location and double-click the file.

  TurboTax is a highly efficient software which saves your time by collecting information and completing various lengthy taxation forms. You can also view your previous year’s tax records by using this software. The steps to view previous TurboTax files are as given below:

  • On your system, in the search box search for “.tax20xx” with ‘xx’ being the year of which you want to see the files.
  • After you get the search results, right click on the file and choose “open file location”. When the location is open, note it down.
  • Further, open TurboTax Software and choose the “Open” option. Navigate to the location that you had noted and double click on the file to open it.

  TurboTax files that have been accidentally deleted can pose a problem for users because they will not be able to file their tax returns without them. Thankfully, TurboTax has a Remote Data Backup software that users can use to recover these files. Simply open the Remote Data Backup software and follow the steps below:

  • Go to ‘Backup View’ and select the ‘Retrieve View’ option.
  • Open Operation menu and navigate to ‘find’
  • Type the file name and search for the desired TurboTax file.
  • Keep clicking next until you locate the file.
